Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!
APBA sanctioned Personal Watercraft
Racing commences in the Southeastern United States in Tavares,
Florida, on May 8th-9th. This race is the
first stop on Mike Young’s Pro Hydro-X Tour presented by Sea Doo,
City of Tavares and Lake County. Tavares, also known as the “Sea
Plane City”, will host the opening round, which is held at Wooten
Park, two blocks from downtown. There have been a lot of changes
since the last race there in last July. Bill Neron, the Economic
Development Manager from the city said, “We have put over Four
million dollars into the park and Sea Plane Marina”. What does that
mean for racers…this park is a beautiful place to bring the whole
family to celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend! Also, fuel will be
available on site, including AV gas, there is a ship store with
supplies on site now, and overlooking the event site is a new
restaurant/bar, Al’s Landing, which will also host the Racer’s
Party on Saturday May 8th at 8pm and has WIFI
available. Speaking to those who are internet savvy, this race we
will be broadcasting live via the web with live streaming on the
internet (waveridersonline.com), courtesy of Skip Fredricks
Productions, who will also be filming for a new movie based on
watercraft racing and interviewing possible extras.
Check-in and late registration will be
held at the Holiday Inn Express, our “Host Hotel”, between the hours
of 7pm – 9pm on Friday, May 7th. Racers must call
352-7421600
by May 1st for the
discounted rooms and use the code H2X for a $75 rate. The City of
Tavares is “rolling out the red carpet” for our group and we would
like to thank Bill Neron, Cecilia Smith, the police and fire dept’s,
and certainly parks and recreation, along with the folks at the sea
plane marina. We would also like to thank our tour sponsors BRP/
Sea Doo, Hydro-Turf, Blowsion, Rick Roy Products, Riva Motorsports,
Mountain Motorsports, Ronnymac.com, and Exotic Signs. Slippery has
become the “Official Apparel” company for the tour and will outfit
the Marshalls and support a grass roots program. They will support
the Junior 13-15 Ski classes, if a rider wins all four moto’s in two
classes, he/she will receive a Slippery package to include a helmet,
wetsuit, vest, and gloves!
Racing and Freestyle will begin at
11am on Saturday on 10 am on Sunday and last until 4pm each day, and
the Riders Meeting will be held at 9am each day on site at the
pavilion. Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs and sun block,
admission is free, courtesy of the City of Tavares. There will be
music, games, live announcing and a great time to be had by all in
the new “entertainment district”, which will also be hosting a
volleyball tournament at the Beach Club! Hope to see you at Wooten
Park, on beautiful Lake Dora May 8-9! Entry Forms are available
